Update on Beers June 2017 ( with brewery's tasting notes)

Regular beers:

Blonde 3.8% ABV A fruity, golden beer with a heady burst of floral hop aroma and a satisfying clean bitterness. Blonde was first brewed as a summer ‘special’, but it proved so popular that it is now one of our permanent beers, and also available in bottles! A blonde for bitter drinkers, it’s our best-seller.

Wild Ennerdale 4.2% ABV Wild Ennerdale is a golden amber coloured real ale, well-hopped with two varieties of English grown hops, yielding a good hop aroma and well-rounded bitterness. We're proud to brew this in association with The Wild Ennerdale Partnership.

Darkest 4.2% ABV A dark bitter, it is a more potent brew than our other beers, but it remains remarkably quaffable. With a rich, velvety texture, a definite chocolate flavour and a creamy head, this beer has converted hundreds of ‘light beer’ drinkers to the ‘dark side’. This is now available in bottles as well as cask, so you can enjoy anytime, anywhere!

Seasonal brews

English Pride 4.0% ABV In honour of great sporting events, we created this seasonal cask ale. English Pride is deep golden brown in colour, with a hoppy aroma and a zesty flavour - a great clean finish! Call us to order your supplies for your sport loving real ale fans!

Jugglers Ale     4.5% ABV A deep amber coloured craft beer, that blends typical English Hop flavors with an all American finish. Using 100% Marris Otter grain gives the beer a unique fullness that aims to please, while the blend of fuggles, Goldings and Cascade hops, complement each other to give a well-balanced, spiced bitterness with a fruity finish. This 4.5% ale really 'juggles' the flavors to give a crisp, layered taste unlike any other.

Marathon Man IPA 5.5% ABV A well hopped, balanced 5.5% Indian Pale Ale (IPA) with spicy orange and grapefruit flavours designed to last the distance. Bursting with a marathon of hoppy, herbal and citrus aromas.

Extra Pale 4.5% ABV The finest extra pale malt infused with imported American hops to create a punchy and extremely quaffable session ale.

Raspberry Extra Pale – 4.5% ABV The finest extra pale malt infused with imported American hops to create a punchy and extremely quaffable session ale with the aroma of Raspberries.

Maple Fall – 4.5% ABV A full bodied dark amber ale with notes of toffee and sweet maple syrup, a smooth slightly spicy nutty finish.

November 2012

Sad news - Phil died after a long and hard battle.

Looks like Steve will continue.

February 2012

Phil Callery (Brewer) will be leaving Ennerdale brewery due to ill health and Steven Hebblethwaite (ex-Bitter End)will be a temporary replacement.

CAMRA members Barrie Roberts and Chris Webber began searching for suitable premises for a brewery in Whitehaven in 2005 but after a long search ending with identifying a fine building that was available, they were pipped at the post by united utilities. The barn at Croasdale farm became available, a fine building needing use after heavy restoration and a brewery was ideal.

The brewery is a 10 barrel plant, installed on amazing foundations, built by Chris, and brewing began in Dec 2007. The location is stunning and comes with its own soft, pure and delicious fell water, filtered at the farm and provided to the whole village.

Peter, (ex-Jennings Head Brewer) worked with Barrie Roberts, to design the first regular beer, Ennerdale, 3.7%, which is golden in colour, using 3 hops and 2 barleys.

After some difficulties during 2009/10 there was a buy out and a change of name to Ennerdale Brewery.

Regular beers:
Darkest Ennerdale 4.2% 1044 Best Bitter
Ennerdale Bitter 3.6% 1036 Bitter
Ennerdale Copper (was Autumn) 3.8% 1040 Bitter
Ennerdale Blonde 3.8% 1040 Golden Ale
Ennerdale Breeze 3.9% 1039 Mild
Ennerdale Spice 4.2% 1042 Speciality
